All-Hazards (Disaster) Preparedness

The term "all-hazards" is used describe possible situations that can impact you and your family. Plaquemines Parish is vulnerable to any number of hazardous or threatening situations, such as chemical spills, flooding, tornados or inclement weather. Preparing for "all-hazards" emergency requires you knowing your risks and developing emergency plans to use during and after the situation.

Prepare

In order to prepare for any emergency, make a list of possible crisis scenarios that could occur in your home or community, create an emergency plan for each of those scenarios and make sure those plans are communicated with all members of your family. Being prepared is the best way to ensure your safety and well-being during any emergency. A few things you can do to prepare:

  • Have an emergency kit and make sure the kit is well stocked
  • Know all methods of communication within the Parish so you can obtain updated emergency messages
  • Make sure you are familiar with evacuation routes outside of the Parish in the event you have to leave suddenly
