- Evacuation Guidelines
The Plaquemines Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness’ goal is to provide its residents and businesses with all the necessary information needed to plan for an emergency or disaster of any kind. Disasters can be in the form of weather-related conditions or man-made disasters including a possible terrorist attack.
Some of these emergencies can be handled without major disruption in the Parish, while others may include a mandatory evacuation. Regardless, the Parish is prepared.
The best way to make sure you stay informed is to make sure you have registered your cell, home phone and email with Plaquemines Parish Emergency Notification System.

The overall strategy of all Southeast Louisiana Parishes for dealing with a potentially catastrophic hurricane or other major emergencies is to evacuate as much of the at-risk population as possible.
In the event of a major storm, no shelters will be available in Plaquemines Parish. Parish officials will determine when to order a mandatory evacuation, which means everyone living in the Parish must leave.
Parish transportation is only available during a mandatory evacuation. In the event of a mandatory evacuation and you are in need of assistance with evacuating, the Parish will provide transportation.
The Parish encourages all residents and business owners to do the same, have a plan, both a family plan and a business plan.
During a mandatory evacuation, no one is allowed to stay in Plaquemines Parish with the exception of emergency responders.
