Empire Bridge Officially Opens with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Today was a happy day for the citizens of Plaquemines Parish. The Doullut Canal Bridge, also known as the Empire Bridge, was officially opened for land and marine traffic. Though the bridge has been open for a few weeks, the official ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
Council Members Jeff Edgecombe and Kirk Lepine were on hand to celebrate this accomplishment, along with Grant Administrator Benny Puckett, Director of Operations Scott Lott, Daybrook Fisheries Executive Vice-President Borden Wallace, and excited residents of Plaquemines Parish. Ann Griffice of Buras and Roseina Copeland of Port Sulphur spoke with enthusiasm about the benefit of having a second bridge to connect lower and upper Plaquemines Parish.
“It has been a long, hard fight to get this bridge open but we are thrilled to finally have an alternative route for residents,” said Council Member Jeff Edgecombe.
