Peters Road By-Pass Update as of June 2012

Thanks to Parish President Billy Nungesser, Senator David Heitmeier, Representative Chris Leopold, and Governor Bobby Jindal, Plaquemines Parish is one step closer to the completion of a project that has been talked about for many years.  The Peters Road By-Pass project, when completed, will connect LA Hwy 23 with Peters Road via Walker Road with a connecting bridge that crosses the Intra-Coastal Waterway. “I promised the people of Plaquemines Parish that I would do everything within my power to see the Peters Road By-Pass built in our lifetime,” said President Billy Nungesser.  “Thanks to our legislative delegation and Governor Jindal that promise is at long last being realized.”

The Peter’s Road Bypass will be built in three phases. Phase I is the Walker Road portion in Plaquemines Parish. Phase II is the Peters Road portion that connects Plaquemines and Jefferson Parishes. Phase III is the connecting bridge across the Intra-Coastal Waterway.

Design Engineering is completed for Phase I and construction has begun.  Phase II design engineering is partially completed with construction funding expected in 2013. Phase III design engineering is funded and the work is currently underway.
