President Nungesser Speaks On LA Contractors Panel
On Thursday, May 17, 2012 the New Orleans District of Louisiana Associated General Contractors (LAGC) hosted a Construction Industry Forum: Industry Concerns and Financing beyond FEMA Funding. Panel leaders included Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, Jefferson Parish President John Young, St. John the Baptist President Natalie Robottom, St. Tammany Parish President Patricia Brister, Regional Planning Commission Executive Director, Walter Brooks and United States Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Edward Fleming. The panel answered questions from the construction industry.
The panel provided the audience of contractors, engineers and architects great details on construction completed under their leadership, current and proposed Municipal and Public Works construction, as well as insight on upcoming private sector construction projects. The panel had the opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned in areas of procurement, permitting, having front-end documents in compliance with Public Bid Law, contract execution and invoice payment processing. The evening wrapped up with the overwhelming sentiment that both elected and appointed municipal leaders and industry associations have a responsibility to encourage our Louisiana State and Federal Elected Representation to see this Region as a collective body when allocating funding in order to create a stable future for the construction industry.
